Zodiak Entertainment’s Fort Boyard About To Start A Brand New Adventure In Finland

For the first time in its 20 year history, Zodiak Entertainment Distribution’s hit adventure game show format Fort Boyard has been commissioned by a broadcaster in Finland.  In its largest single commission to date, innovative Finnish television channel SuomiTV, which launched in 2009, has ordered ten episodes to air in primetime later this year.  This flagship series for the channel will be co-produced by Zodiak Entertainment Finland Oy and Adventure Line Productions, both Zodiak Entertainment companies.

The news follows a wave of new commissions across Scandinavia, with locally produced versions of Fort Boyard already set to air in Norway, Denmark and Sweden in the coming months.  In an extremely exciting year for the world’s most famous adventure gameshow, seven new series of Fort Boyard will be produced for different territories in just the first six months of 2010.

Since its launch twenty years ago, more than 1,400 episodes of Fort Boyard have been produced for thirty countries* with the finished series being sold on to broadcasters in more than 20 countries**.

Jarmo Kalliola, Managing Director at SuomiTV comments, “This is the biggest solo investment in an entertainment format that we have made at SuomiTV and we’re extremely excited by the prospect of bringing Fort Boyard to our family focused audience.   Fort Boyard’s track record speaks for itself and we know the series will attract viewers and bring great entertainment and fun to our screens this autumn.”

Matthieu Porte, Head of Format Sales at Zodiak Entertainment adds, “Fort Boyard is definitely the flavour of the moment and we’re delighted.  As a new channel, SuomiTV needs big shows to define its brand identity and which will guarantee audience ratings.  Fort Boyard delivers all of this as well as being great value for money.”

Built in the Atlantic Ocean by Napoleon in the 19th century, the unique and magical Fort Boyard underwent extensive restoration to create one of the world’s largest outdoor television studios.  The show offers the ultimate in adventure as teams of contestants – either members of the public or from the world of celebrity – enter the Fort to attempt to win Boyard’s gold.  The team are accompanied by a cast of strange characters and tasked with completing a gamut of physical and endurance challenges, offering intense suspense, strong emotions, riddles to solve and a code to discover.  All before contestants even reach the Fort Boyard Treasure Room – guarded by tigers!
