Yellow Bird

Yellow Bird

Yellow Bird was established in 2003 and is today one of Scandinavia’s most prolific companies in film and TV drama. The company focuses primarily on international co-productions based on books. Yellow Bird has a subsidiary, Yellow Bird Pictures, based in Munich.

Yellow Bird has been in the limelight for producing the feature films The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, based on Stieg Larsson's critically acclaimed Millennium trilogy. Released in more than 50 countries with a total box office of above 210 million USD, this film project is the most successful ever to come out of Scandinavia. The films are also available as a 6x90 TV movie series.

Furthermore, Yellow Bird has produced both the Swedish and UK versions of Henning Mankell’s Wallander (the latter together with Left Bank Pictures). The UK series, starring Kenneth Branagh for BBC1, was awarded the 2009 BAFTA for 'Best Drama Series'.

Upcoming productions include a Norwegian feature film based on Jo Nesbø's thriller novel Headhunters (together with Friland), a series of Swedish films based on Liza Marklund's books about crime reporter Annika Bengtzon and six new Irene Huss films (together with Illusion film) based on Helene Tursten’s books.
