Since 1995, the company has gained an enviable reputation as one of the leading creators of natural history and wildlife content. In the early years Mona Lisa gained international recognition by initiating a new kind of storytelling in natural history, introducing science and ethnozoology in wildlife films, and exploring new themes such as the microscopic world. They offered broadcasters a fresh and unique take on the natural world.
Research and development has been vital in the company’s efforts to discover and demonstrate innovative filming techniques – the words innovation, originality and quality feature heavily in the company’s mantra. Mona Lisa has patented the state-of-the-art shooting technology which uses the Philips ESEM (Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope) to show living creatures of the invisible world as they’ve never been seen before. The quality and originality of its productions has allowed the company to build a strong image and identity among the producers of documentary films.
Over the past ten years, Mona Lisa received over 100 awards at international festivals including the prestigious prize for innovation at Wildscreen 2000 – Bristol UK, for the film Cannibal Mites. This international recognition has allowed Mona Lisa to foster partnerships with major networks across the globe and to have its content broadcast in over 60 countries worldwide. The company has produced for National Geographic Channel, Discovery Communications and PBS in the US, as well as the public channels in Europe and Asia.
Mona Lisa continues to develop its successful strategy and is working on new projects in the field of science, discovery, wildlife, exploration and human adventure.
